This thesis focuses on the songs of Henry Fresneau, a rarely studied composer of the sixteenth century. Published between 1538 and 1554, these four-voice polyphonic songs appear scattered in printed collections by Jacques Moderne in Lyon and Pierre Attaingnant in Paris. We propose a critical edition of the songs, which accounts for their text, their music and the association between these two dimensions. The editorial process involves making choices about the possible association between syllables and notes, making explicit certain prosodic information implied in our sources.
