Objective: While many studies have shown an association between the gene coding for adiponectin (ADIPOQ) and adiponectin levels, much more controversy surrounds its association with metabolic traits such as insulin resistance, obesity and type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, very few studies have looked into the relations between ADIPOQ variants and risk of cardiovascular disease.
