Specific immunotherapy is a well established and clinically proved strategy to cure allergic reactions. The impressive boost of knowledge derived from DNA recombinant technology applied to this field allowed the identification, cloning and expression of several clinically relevant allergens. Recombinant allergens can be easily produced in a pure and reproducible way with immunological properties comparable to natural allergens and matching the requirements of pharmaceutical companies.
