Speech transmission index (STI) is one of the objective measurements that assess speech transmission quality in the room acoustics. This paper proposed a method for blindly estimatingSTI based on the concept of the modulation transferfunction (MTF). In this method, STI can be estimated from the estimated MTFs in the seven octave-bands, by using our previous method for blindy estimating reverberation time (RT). Simulations were carried out to evaluate the proposed method, in realistic environments (SMILE2004 datasets). Results showed that the proposed method can effectively estimate both RT and STI from these reverberant environments
