Job Attitudes of Teachers

This study was concerned with the differences in the extent of need satisfactions among eight job factors (self-expression, freedom, social evaluation, supervisor, associates, salary, work hours and over-all satisfaction) and the differenses in the importance attributed to eight job factors (fastors mentioned above, except for over-all satisfaction factor, and including interests). The extent of need satisfactions were rated on the five categories of responese, and evaluations of importance were obtained on the ranking order from 1 to 8. The subjects were 69 (54 men and 15 women) junior high school teachers and 61 (38 men and 23 women) elementary school teachers. The results indicated that : 1. In the average scores of satisfactions,their job attitudes were neutral, but associates item was well satisfied, salary, work hours and social evaluation were least satisfied, freedom, supervisor and serf-expression were in the middle-level. 2. The correlation of 0.75 between over-all satisfaction and satisfaction on self-expression was significantly higher than all others. 3. Supervisor and associates were ranked last and next to last, work hours and interests were ranked the first and second, other were ranked in the middle level. 4. The correlation between the ranking scores and satisfaction scores on both work hours and salary were significantly negative, but the correlation on social evaluation was significantly positive. 5. Women group were more satisfied on salary and work hours and gave higher ranking to work hours, but lower ranking to salary than did men group. Also, elementary school group and longer length of service group gave higher ranking to interests than high school group and shorter length of service group repectiveｌy
