The reaction of aldehyde-collidine N-oxide with equimolecular amount of acetyl chloride yielded nearly the same amount of 2-chloromethyl-5-ethyl pyridine and 2-acet oxymethyl-5-ethylpyridine. When 4-nitro-aldehyde-collidine N-oxide was treated with equimolecular amount of acetyl chloride, 4-chloroaldehyde-collidine N-oxide and small amount of 4-chloroaldehyde-collidine were obtained. When two equivalents amount of acetyl chloride was used, 4-nitroaldehyde-collidine N-oxide yielded the third product, 1-oxido-4-chloro-5-ethyl-2-pyridine-0-acetyl-hydroxamic chloride, in addition to above 4-chloroaldehyde-collidine N-oxide and 4-chloro-aldehyde-collidine.
