The present study was undertaken to clarify the infuence of light intensity and temperature on the response of photosynthetic activity of natural phytoplankton populations at a thin surface microlayer in Lake Biwa.Nitrogenous nutrients and particulate organic matter were enhanced at the surface microlayer.An optimum curve,with the optimum temperature at around 30 ℃,was obtained.A Q_10 factor for photosynthesis was calculated as 2.0 to 3.2.The photosynthetic activity increased with increasing light internsity up to some asymptotic value.The photosynthetic activity did not evidence photo-inhibition,under continuous light using fluorescent lamps.In the examination under solar radiation,on the other hand,the photo-inhibition was observed above ...
