The purpose of this study is to investigate what kind of problems hard-of-hearing children have to understand metaphorical (or figurative) language. In the first half of the present paper, the following points are reviewed; (1) What is metaphorical language? (2) How do we understand such expressions? (3) What is said to be the special problem with deaf or hard-of-hearing children? In the second half, some data are presented concerning the comprehension of analogy by 18 hard-of-hearing children
