Cette thèse a pour but de déterminer un matériau capable de dégager du O2(g) sans se dégrader pendant une électrolyse dans un milieu CaCl2 - CaO fondu à 850 °C. Un tel matériau est nécessaire pour la transposition à échelle industrielle des procédés FFC (Fray, Farthing, Chen) et OS (Ono, Susuki), étudiés depuis le début des années 2000 pour permettent de réduire un oxyde métallique insoluble MOx en métal M en une unique opération d'électrolyse dans CaCl2 - CaO.
