Penelitian ini mengkaji sosok feminin berjiwa monster yang digambarkan dalam The Girl Next Door (1989) oleh Jack Ketchum. Tokoh antagonis bernama Ruth Chandler menampilkan sifat kastrasi terhadap anak-anaknya yang berbeda dengan sosok ibu yang mengasuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis dan kompleksitas feminin berjiwa monster yang ditunjukkan dalam The Girl Next Door (1989). Peneliti menggunakan teori feminin berjiwa monster yang dikonsepkan oleh Barbara Creed (1993) dan konsep wanita abjek serta konsep sastra horror oleh Julia Kristeva (1982).
