How to treat learners' mistakes or errors is a very important issue these days in foreign language classrooms. One remarkable negative-feedback strategy is “recasts” in which teachers correct learners' errors in second language acquisition(SLA). Research on recasts in first language acquisition has been carried out since the 1970's. In this paper it is shown how this research has expanded from first to SLA, and some questions that have arisen about the definition of recasts will also discussed
