As the world is fighting against a common problem, the climate change, new additional solutions are in demand. The information technology (IT) sector is a major consumer of electricity globally, thus generating enormous amounts of CO₂ emissions. It is estimated that the IT sector could be responsible for 14% of CO₂ emissions generated globally by 2040 and that has raised concerns how these figures could be mitigated.
