The increase of transport of non-conventional crude petroleum in Canada is associated with risks of spills. Accidental spills such as in Lac-Megantic revealed a lack of understanding of its biodegradation during soil treatment. The present work studied the feasibility of bioremediation methods in affected urban soils by non-conventional petroleum. Soil with similar composition to the affected soils in Lac-Megantic was sampled in Quebec City and presented a high content in heavy metals (3 mg Cd kg-1 soil).
