This paper analyzes the results of PAC-analysis interview for a Japanese language learner with the face sheet designed by Maruyama & Ozawa (2008), before and during their study abroad. It discusses the effects the Japanese language learner receives from the Japanese texts, and how the Japanese language learner’s character and their study abroad experiences affects their interpretations of the reading text. The results point to the importance of providing information on Japanese classes before their commencement of study abroad, the possibility that the significance of the study abroad experience is bigger than is often recognized by instructors, and the big influence of communication with family and friends.
