Oribatid mite communities of 14 different altitudes and vegetations were investigated in Mt. Daisen, Tottori Prefecture, Southwest Japan. The oribatid mite communities were divided into the community of summit zone (above the forest line) and that of montane zone. Oribatid community of the summit zone was quite peculiar in having Eupelops sp. 1, Phthiracarus japonicus, Hypochthoniella minutissima, Platynothrus yamasakii etc. In addition, relative density of Eremobelba japonica and Oppia sp. 3 was heigh, while that of Tectocepheus spp. and Oppiella nova did not occupy more than 20% in number mostly.
