The Chugoku district is located in the south-eastern part of Honshu, mainland of Japan. Most of actual vagetation in the district are substitutional vegetation under many types of human impact. Resting natural vegetation are mostly shinto shrine forests, buddhistic temple forests, steep slope, sea-side slope and others. Since 1971, phytosociological investigations and studies on potential natural vegetation of the Chugoku district have been carried out. As a result of the investigation, 46 associations and communities were classified according to Braun-Blanquet system of phytosociology. And the potential natural vegetation map was completed in scale 1 : 200,000 in 1979.Contributions from the Dep. Vegetation Science, Inst. Environmen. Sci. &...
