Media Literacy and Literacy : What Does Media Literacy Bring to Japanese Language Teaching?

Recently, national language teaching in Japan has been adopting the media literacy in their classes. The Japanese as a second language, on the contrary, has been paying not so much attention to the media literacy. In my view, the adoption of the media literacy can bring the Japanese language teaching much fruitful ideas and inspiration on the following points : 1) thinking about the relationships between the language teaching and teaching the intellectual foundation for the citizen living in the contemporary society, 2) meditating on the interrelation between the 'literacy' and the media 'literacy'
