Methodological Proposal to address the agricultural Entrepreneurship Process

Agriculture is an economic activity with unique characteristics and is very important for the economies of developing countries. The objective of this chapter is to propose a methodological framework to broaden the understanding of the agricultural entrepreneurship process. The proposal is based on a case study design that examines the relationship between three constructs: strategic movements, entrepreneurship process, and entrepreneurial families. The framework is discussed in terms of validity and reliability and was applied to 14 successful agricultural enterprises in Mexico. An entrepreneurial logic based on three stages was found; evaluation, expansion and consolidation, with particularities according to the type of family that develops the entrepreneurship process. The findings have implications for those involved in agricultural entrepreneurship research and practice. However, there are also implications at the policy level that can favour regional development from the orchestration of resources from the different types of families that coexist in the territories
