This thesis focuses on the spatial remote sensing of nitrous oxide (N2O) measured in the thermal infrared spectral range of the Infrared Atmospheric Sounder Interferometer (IASI) instrument, mainly, but also of the MonItoring N2O Sources (MIN2OS) potential future instrument. During this thesis, a N2O specific inversion tool, called Toulouse N2O Retrieval (TN2OR) using the Levenberg-Marquardt optimal estimation method and coupled to the RTTOV Radiative Transfer for TIROS Optical Vertical sounder (RTTOV) model has been developed.
