Hypoxia is a well-known feature of the microenvironment in solid tumors, associated with aggressiveness, metastases and a negative impact on therapeutic prognosis. Hypoxic tumors are generally resistant to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Considering its central role in tumour progression and resistance to therapy, tumour hypoxia is considered as a validated target to be exploited in oncology to develop diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
