We have developed two mid-infrared (MIR) laser spectrometers that combine very high resolution, tunability, detection sensitivity and absolute frequency control. The first uses a 10.3 μm quantum cascade laser (QCL) phase-locked to a frequency comb which is itself stabilized to a 1.55 μm ultra-stable laser transmitted by fiber link from LNE-SYRTE, where it is measured against primary standards. This yields a laser emission width of ∼0.1 Hz, with a stability better than 2 × 10^(−15) from 0.1 s to 10^4 s, and a relative frequency uncertainty that reaches the 10^(−15) range.
