Endocrine disruptors (ED) are potentially harmful for Human beings and for wildlife species. Species-specific mechanism-based screening tests nowadays allow characterizing the ED potency of chemicals in the context of their toxicological assessment. However, the biotransformation capabilities of the biological models used are seldom taken into consideration, despite they ultimately condition the fate of the tested xenobiotics (detoxification vs. bioactivation), and, consequently, the biological response.
