We are interested in the breakup of the liquid jet in the case of coaxial two-fluid atomization, a canonical breakup situation found in many natural and engineering phenomena. The breakup process is a complex two-phase flow displaying a broad range of time and spatial scales, involving different physical mechanisms that define various atomization regimes.Using high-speed backlit imaging, we study the liquid core, defined as the liquid portion hydraulically connected to the injector, focusing on the time series of its longitudinal extent Lb on a broad parameter space.
