Thyroid Function Tests in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome: A Comprehensive Analysis

A thorough examination is required since the incidence of the complex cluster of cardiovascular risk factors known as the metabolic syndrome is rising worldwide. In a cohort of [insert number] adults, this study investigates the association between thyroid function tests (TSH, FT4, FT3) and the specific manifestations of metabolic syndrome (central obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, impaired glucose metabolism). Methods: Adults who fulfilled the NCEP ATP III criteria for metabolic syndrome were included in a prospective observational research that lasted two years, from October 2020 to October 2022. Clinical, anthropometric, and biochemical data were gathered, together with results of thyroid function tests and evaluations of the metabolic syndrome's constituent parts. Results: There was a positive connection between TSH and central obesity (r = 0.342, p 0.001), hypertension (r = 0.248, p = 0.004), dyslipidemia (r = 0.187, p = 0.034), and poor glucose metabolism (r = 0.215, p = 0.015). Significant correlations between TSH and central obesity (ß = 0.218, p = 0.009), hypertension (ß = 0.157, p = 0.045), and poor glucose metabolism (ß = 0.189, p = 0.032) were confirmed by multivariate regression analysis. Independent correlations between these components and FT4 and FT3 were not found. Conclusion: This study highlights the substantial correlation between TSH and metabolic syndrome features, highlighting the possible contribution of thyroid dysfunction to the pathophysiology of the metabolic syndrome. The treatment of metabolic syndrome and lowering cardiovascular risk may both benefit from early detection and management of thyroid problems.
