ANALISIS KEBUTUHAN AWAL PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN BERBICARA DENGAN BERCERITA SISWA

This study aims to analyze the initial needs of media development as an effort to improve speaking skills of elementary school’s students by storytelling. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with research instruments in the form of observation, questionnaires, and interviews. Data analysis techniques used include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the initial needs instrument data analysis, it was found that student’s speaking ability was still low, students were embarrassed to speak in front of the class, did not dare to express opinions, were nervous, and halted when speaking caused by inadequate facilities and infrastructure, the learning environment was not conducive, lack of support from parents, and teachers have not used appropriate learning media. The results obtained show that the data on student's reading interest is still low and the learning method used by the teacher is uninteresting because it does not use additional media. Most students said they were more interested in additional media story in the form of hand puppets which is 53.8%. Furthermore, this study can be used as an initial needs analysis for media development in the form of hand puppet media profiles that are appropriate for storytelling activities
