The main purpose of this paper is to analyze some of Leibniz’s critics of mechanics in order to understand its limitations, particularly those that help to clarify the distinction between the machines made by human beings and machines of nature. To understand Leibniz’s critics of mechanics, we divided them into three kinds: 1. critics of the Cartesian conception of extension; 2.
