Hernia surgery is a widely performed procedure in general surgery, with three main approaches: open, laparoscopic, and robotic hernia repair. Inguinal hernia repair is one of the most common surgeries, performed in over 20 million patients worldwide annually. This study aims to describe postoperative complications in male patients undergoing this surgery. A literature review was conducted through Google Scholar, PubMed, Scielo, and Lilacs. Inclusion criteria encompassed national and international papers in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. Results indicate a tenfold higher risk of postoperative complications in men undergoing inguinal hernia repair.
