This essay proposes a reflection on the importance of developing skills in addition and subtraction of fractions in the teaching-learning process of mathematics. A methodology is proposed that includes the use of active strategies and digital resources to motivate students and improve their understanding and application of these concepts. In addition, some previous studies on motivation in learning mathematics and the quantitative meaning of fractions for Mexican elementary students are mentioned.
