The end of the ventral pathway for form recognition occurs at the anterior region of the inferotemporal cortex, area TE, which is the last area that is exclusively visual along this pathway. Area TE may play a role in the visual identification of complex objects. Unlike almost all other visual cortical areas that maintain a precise retinotopic organization, visual stimuli elicit responses within area TE from several clusters of neurons that are not physically contiguous
