In this paper, I intend to investigate the school effects, especially the effects of higher education on the modernization of social systems through an international comparison. Data were obtained from the publications which provided estimates of the characteristics of 38 countries. Based on multiple regression analysis, I examined these data to see how educational variables predict social indicators selected as dependent variables. These dependent variables indicate the degree of modernization. The 14 social indicators are selected out of four general sectors : economic factors ( 5 indicators), mass media (4), health and nourishment capabilities (3) , and population characteristics(2).
