According to the Self Evaluative Motivation (SEM) Model proposed in Sakurai (1984c) , it was predicted that parents' and teachers' praise-reproof would influence their children's intrinsic motivation for learning. In the present study, this prediction was examined by administrating three kinds of inventory, Sakurai and Taskano's (1985) intrinsic-extrinsic motivation scale, Sakurai's (1983b) cognitive subscale of perceived competence scale, and revised Tamase, Sugimura, and Fujita's (1983) percevived parents' praise-reproof inventory, to 160 fifth and sixth graders.
