The samples used in this dating were pyroclastic flow deposit from several volcanoes in Southern Kyushu. Their TL ages were obtained by quartz inclusion technique which was established through the dating of pottery.Accumulated dose was evaluated from TL intensity calibrated with Co60 gamma rays. Annual dose measurements were made with CaSO4:Tm TL dosimeter, which was sandwhiched between two sample blocks pressed into boards.The attenuation of the beta due to the polyethylene was evaluated with a JG-1 of known radioisotope content and appropriate correction was made in the beta dose rate measurement.
