Tafseer Traditions of Hazrat Abdullah Bin Masood: A Comparative Study in the Light of Imam Tabarani ' s Maajim & Sihah-e-Sitta

Quran is the primary source of Sharia (Islamic Law) and the key to success for entire humankind in this world and hereafter. Hadith is the written record of the sayings, actions and life of the holy Prophet (PBUH). Hadith, apart from being the secondary source of Sharia, also provides the theoretical and practical explanation of the teachings of the Quran. Therefore, the importance of Hadith for understanding and interpreting the Quran cannot be overemphasized. The scholars of Hadith (Muhaddithein) have compiled the Hadith in different styles, keeping in view their different objectives, since the beginning of the compilation of Hadith. There have been a number of famous Muhaddithein who are highly respected and regarded for their work. Among them is Imam Tbarani, one of the greatest scholars, who compiled many valuable collections of Hadith. His three famous books, known as Ma’ajam-e-Salasah contain a huge collection of about 31,449 Ahadith and Aasar. Around 1,200 of these Ahadith are related to the exposition of the Quran, out of which around 171 are narrated by Abdullah Bin Masood (RA), who was one of the greatest companions of the Prophet (PBUH). In this research paper, the aforementioned 171 narrations by Abdullah Bin Masood (RA) have been analyzed and compared with his narrations found in Saha-Sitta (six fundamental books of Hadith). Many of these 171 narrations are also found in other books of Hadith are some of them are helpful in understanding the similar narrations found in other books.
