Het voorkomen van de glanskevers van het genus Caprophilus in Nederland (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae)

The occurrence of nitidulid beetles of the genus Carpophilus in the Netherlands (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae) Some species of the genus Carpophilus (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae) may act as pests of stored products like cocoabeans, peanuts, dried fruits like figs and dates, imported from tropical or subtropical countries. The aim of this study is to review the status of the seven recorded species in our country. Carpophilus sexpustulatus is a European species which occurs naturally in the Netherlands. It is the only species which has not been found in dried food stuffs. The other six species are imported with dried fruit, seeds and nuts. Of these C. marginellus seems to have succeeded in building up populations in the Netherlands and this species is considered as established. Carpophilus hemipterus did try to establish populations in the open air but seems not to have succeeded until now. This species is classified as incidentally introduced. The records of C. dimidiatus, ligneus, mutilatus and obsoletus don’t show indications of breeding populations and these four species are also classified as incidentally introduced. Carpophilus bipustulatus was mentioned bij Brakman (1966) as to be expected, but until now the species has not been recorded from the Netherlands
