Description and analysis of clinical and molecular patterns in dog allergy

Dog allergy is increasing its prevalence in the West countries in recent times. Among its most frequent manifestations are rhinitis, asthma, urticaria, conjunctivitis and pruritus. These symptoms can impair the quality of life of these patients and increase their morbidity. In addition, due to the emotional involvement, many of those affected do not want to be separated from their dogs to reverse their allergic state, so knowing better the clinical and molecular profile of the patients could help to improve the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of the disease. In this project, a sample of 36 individuals diagnosed of dog allergy was studied, collecting their epidemiological, clinical, and diagnostic data. These data were statistically analyzed, observing an association between sensitization to different allergens and the appearance and severity of allergic rhinitis and asthma. Furthermore, an association was found between the number of dogs in contact with the patient and the sensitization to Can f1, and between the breed of the dog and the appearance of rhinitis. Finally, we observed crossed associations in sensitization to different dog antigens between each other.58 p.La alergia a perro está aumentando su prevalencia en occidente en los últimos tiempos. Entre sus manifestaciones más frecuentes se encuentran rinitis, asma, urticaria, conjuntivitis y prurito. Dichos síntomas pueden llegar a deteriorar la calidad de vida de estos pacientes y a incrementar su morbilidad. Además, debido a la implicación emocional, muchos de los afectados no quieren separarse de sus perros para revertir su estado alérgico, por lo que conocer mejor el perfil clínico y molecular de los pacientes podría ayudar a mejorar el diagnóstico y posterior tratamiento de la enfermedad. En el presente proyecto se estudió una muestra de 36 personas diagnosticadas de alergia a perro, recogiendo sus datos epidemiológicos, clínicos y diagnósticos. Se analizaron dichos datos estadísticamente, observándose asociación entre la sensibilización a los distintos alérgenos y la apariencia y severidad de rinitis y asma alérgicas. Asimismo, se halló relación entre el número de perros en contacto con el paciente y la sensibilización a Can f1, y entre la raza del perro y la aparición de rinitis.
