Prediciendo la ansiedad al fracaso y conflicto con las atribuciones en matemáticas

Throughout their schooling, many students manifest both anxiety when anticipating school failures and conflicts, and attributions to their academic results that may be far from reality. Given that these students need to recover their enthusiasm for learning and living together in the educational field, the relationship between anxiety and attributions must be deepened. This study aimed to analyze the probability of experiencing anxiety to school failure and conflict according to the tendency to attribute the academic results in mathematics. 715 students whose ages ranged from 12 to 18 years old (M =14.59; SD = 1.78) participated. The sample answered to the School Anxiety Inventory, specifically to the dimensions referring to anxiety about failure and conflict, and they also completed the Sydney Attribution Scale. It was obtained that those students who tend to attribute their negative results in the area of mathematics to internal causes have a greater probability of experiencing anxiety to failures and conflicts. In addition, students who tend to attribute their positive results to internal and external causes are less likely to experience anxiety to school failures and conflicts. As a conclusion, for didactic programs it should be considered that time should be spent making students reflect on the real causes of their results in mathematics, and thus being able to prevent them from expressing anxiety about failure and conflict.Muchos estudiantes manifiestan a lo largo de su escolarización tanto ansiedad al anticipar fracasos y conflictos escolares, como atribuciones ante sus resultados académicos que pueden distar de la realidad. Dado que este alumnado necesita recuperar su entusiasmo por aprender y convivir en el ámbito educativo, debe profundizarse en la relación entre la ansiedad y las atribuciones. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar la probabilidad de experimentar ansiedad al fracaso y el conflicto escolar según la tendencia a atribuir los resultados académicos en matemáticas. Participaron 715 estudiantes cuyas edades comprendieron los 12 y los 18 años (M =14.59; DE = 1.78). La muestra respondió al Inventario de Ansiedad Escolar, concretamente a las dimensiones referidas a la ansiedad al fracaso y el conflicto, y también cumplimentaron la Escala de Atribución de Sydney. Se obtuvo que aquellos estudiantes que tienden a atribuir sus resultados negativos en el área de matemáticas a causas internas poseen una mayor probabilidad de experimentar ansiedad ante los fracasos y conflictos. Además, los estudiantes que tienden a atribuir sus resultados positivos a causas internas y externas poseen una menor probabilidad de experimentar ansiedad ante los fracasos y conflictos escolares. Como conclusión, en las programaciones didácticas debe considerarse que se debe dedicar un tiempo a hacer reflexionar al alumnado sobre las causas realistas de sus resultados en matemáticas, y poder así evitar que manifiesten ansiedad al fracaso y conflicto
