Previous research, using the body-part compatibility (BPC) task, has revealed that tool embodiment might emerge through both real and virtual interactions. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the validity of using a BPC task to measure tool-embodiment that typically only emerges from active tool-engagement. Participants completed a BPC task in which they responded with either a foot or hand press to targets presented on an image of a model holding a rake. Targets were presented on the model’s foot, hand, and the rake. This response time (RT) task was performed before and after one of two interventions.
