Contrary to traditional models, habitat selection in ectotherms may be chiefly based on a habitat’s thermal properties rather than its food availability, due to their physiological dependence on environmental temperature. We tested two hypotheses: that microhabitat use in ectotherms is driven by food availability and that it is driven by thermoregulatory requirements.
