The genera Cosmopterix Hübner and Pebobs Hodges in the New World with special attention to the Neotropical fauna (Lepidoptera: Cosmopterigidae)

The genera Cosmopterix Hübner, [1825] and Pebobs Hodges, 1978 (Cosmopterigidae) of the New World are revised, for the Neotropical fauna for the first time. A total of 102 species is recognized and 49 species are described as new: Cosmopterix adrastea spec. nov., C. amalthea spec. nov., C. ananke spec. nov., C. argentifera spec. nov., C. aurotegulae spec. nov., C. beckeri spec. nov., C. callisto spec. nov., C. carpo spec. nov., C. chaldene spec. nov., C. chalupae spec. nov., C. erinome spec. nov., C. etmylaurae spec. nov., C. euanthe spec. nov., C. eukelade spec. nov., C. euporie spec. nov., C. ganymedes spec. nov., C. gielisorum spec. nov., C. gomezpompai spec. nov., C. harpalyke spec. nov., C. helike spec. nov., C. hermippe spec. nov., C. himalia spec. nov., C. io spec. nov., C. iocaste spec. nov., C. karsholti spec. nov., C. langmaidi spec. nov., C. lummyae spec. nov., C. lysithea spec. nov., C. metis spec. nov., C. mneme spec. nov., C. navarroi spec. nov., C. nieukerkeni spec. nov., C. nishidai spec. nov., C. orthosie spec. nov., C. pimmaarteni spec. nov., C. praxidike spec. nov., C. saltensis spec. nov., C. schouteni spec. nov., C. taygete spec. nov., C. thebe spec. nov., C. thelxinoe spec. nov., C. themisto spec. nov., C. thyone spec. nov., C. trifasciella spec. nov., C. vanderwolfi spec. nov., and Pebobs aitne spec. nov., P. elara spec. nov., P. isonoe spec. nov., P. kale spec. nov. Two new combinations are introduced: Pebobs sanctivincenti (Walsingham, 1891) comb. n. and P. tetragramma (Meyrick, 1915) comb. n., and five new synonyms are proposed: Cosmopterix bendidia Hodges, 1962, a junior synonym of C. astrapias Walsingham, 1909, C. venefica Meyrick, 1915, C. attenuatella (Walker, 1864), C. dicacula Hodges, 1962 of C. callichalca Meyrick, 1922, C. gracilens Hodges, 1962 of C. inopis Hodges, 1962, and C. abdita Hodges, 1962 of C. teligera Meyrick, 1915 of Batrachedra violenta Meyrick, 1916, previously considered a Cosmopterix is transferred to the genus Coccidiphila Danilevski, 1950 (comb. n.). Lectotypes are designated in accordance with ICZN (article 74.7.3) for the following species: Cosmopteryx chalybaeella Walsingham, 1889, C. clemensella Stainton, 1860, C. delicatella Walsingham, 1889, C. irrubricata Walsingham, 1909, C. nitens Walsingham, 1889, C. similis Walsingham, 1897 and C. sanctivincenti (Walsingham, 1891). Diagnoses, descriptions, and type information are provided for each species.
