There are a number of reasons why a linguist can address himself to the study of religion. I have already discussed this in a programmatic way (Samarin 1972a) and have demonstrated, I think, that religious behavior could be misunderstood when linguistic facts were not correctly interpreted. The latter is found in my work on Penhecostalism, with special reference to the phenomenon known as glossolalia (Samarin 1972b and several other works).
