Heterosis is perhaps one of the greatest practical achievements of the science of plant breeding and has been extensively used in crop improvement. Therefore, an understanding of its potential genetic basis is imperative. Extensive studies in crop plants including rice have been made to elucidate the genetic factors underlying heterosis.
