While innovative pedagogy and open access to scholarly publications are some of the key benefits of social technology and practices, serious institutional, socioeconomic, and legal barriers to participation remain. In addition, career pathways for scholarly advancement are shifting as the digital revolution creates unfamiliar challenges for graduating students, academics and policy makers.
