grantor: University of TorontoThis paper identifies the underlying preferences for two distinct LTC settings for persons with chronic health problems. A tune-trade off (TTO) preference elicitation technique was used to determine the relative preference for home-based care compared to facility-based care for forty elderly persons currently in receipt of home-based care for chronic health problems in North York, Ontario. The variation in relative preferences for home-based care in this study population could not be explained by age, gender, waiting list status, living arrangements, informal care, housing type, housing ownership, income level or own health perception.
