grantor: University of TorontoWith the application of high pressure there were two transitions in the tensile response of polypropylene, one associated with the crystalline component and the other with the amorphous component. The first was the development of a distinct bend to lesser slope in the stress-strain curve prior to the stress maximum. This is the yield transition which is associated with the onset of crystalline flow. The second transition is a jump in the tensile response at a particular pressure. This was determined to be due to a pressure-induced rubber-to-glass transition of the amorphous component.
