Studies of the influence of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon on atmospheric conditions of different regions, have determined characteristic trends in rainfall patterns of El Niño and La Niña years. The possibility of anticipating those conditions by using the Southern Oscillation Index (IOS), or other indicators, has created the expectation of using this information for forecasting. An analysis of quarterly and semestral rain information of six localities of Córdoba province, and of the entire region (Zona), verified the inverse association between rain anomaly and the IOS.
