Scientific Note - Persistence index and description of first 100 days of the lactation curve of primiparous and multiparous Saanen goats maintained in confinement Nota Científica - ÍNDICE DE PERSISTENCIA Y DESCRIPCIÓN DE LOS PRIMEROS 100 DÍAS DE LA CURVA DE LACTANCIA DE CABRAS SAANEN PRIMÍPARAS Y MULTÍPARAS MANTENIDAS EN CONFINAMIENTO

A study was performed in order to describe milk production during the first 100 lactation days in a Saanen goat herd in confinement, divided into two groups according to parturition ordinal number (I: primiparous, II: multiparous). Milk production was evaluated based on weekly controls and average individual production of the whole herd, average individual production for each group, maximum and minimum production points, and Persistence Index (IP). ANOVA was used to determine between-group statistical differences. Average individual milk production was 244.2 ± 13.9 L and 272.2 ± 13.3 L for primiparous and multiparous goats, respectively. The peak reached by the primiparous group was 2.68 ± 0.15 L (6th week post-parturition) and that of the multiparous group was 2.94 ± 0.14 L (10th week post-parturition). The minimum production point was 2.30 ± 0.16 L and 2.65 ± 0.20 L for groups I and II respectively. In both groups the minimum production was reached in the 14th week post-parturition. Milk production for group II goats was higher than group I goats (P 0.05). RESUMEN Se realizó un estudio para describir la producción de leche durante los primeros 100 días de lactancia en un rebaño de cabras Saanen en confinamiento, divididas en dos grupos de acuerdo a su número ordinal de partos (Grupo I: primíparas; Grupo II: multíparas). Se evaluó la leche producida en el período en base a controles semanales y se calculó la producción individual promedio del rebaño completo, producción individual promedio para cada grupo, puntos máximos y mínimos de producción e índice de persistencia (IP). Para determinar diferencias estadísticas entre ambos grupos se utilizó ANDEVA. La producción individual promedio de leche fue 244,2 ± 13,9 L y 272,2 ± 13,3 L para las cabras primíparas y para las multíparas, respectivamente. El peak alcanzado para el grupo primíparas fue 2,68 ± 0,15 L (6a semana post-parto) y para el grupo multíparas fue 2,94 ± 0,14 L (10a semana post-parto). El punto mínimo de producción alcanzado fue 2,30 ± 0,16 L y 2,65 ± 0,20 L para el grupo I y II respectivamente. En ambos grupos la producción mínima se produjo en la 14a semana post-parto. La producción de leche en las del grupo II fue mayor que las del grupo I (P 0,05)
