Kommos III: The Late Bronze Age Pottery

An Excavation off the South Coast of Crete by the University of Toronto and the Royal Ontario Museum under the auspices of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.This volume by Livingston Vance Watrous reports on the Late Minoan pottery discovered during 1976-1982 and on a portion of that from 1983 at the site of Kommos. Along with contemporary material from the Phaistos and Agia Triada areas, published by Italian archaeologists since 1900, it should contribute to a better understanding of ceramic developments in south central Crete. Equally important, it provides a more complete study of the imported pottery than was possible in the preliminary publications. The implications of this study for our knowledge of international interrelations in the Late Bronze Age are particularly important. This theme will be taken up again at a later time in a general reevaluation of the roles Kommos may have played in that period and in connection with the Minoan ashlar buildings on the south
