A CORRELATIONAL STUDY OF PRINCIPALS' KNOWLEDGE OF LITERACY-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES AND PRINCIPALS' LEADERSHIP STYLES

As part of its program to train literacy coaches or Literacy Resource Teachers (LRTs) for deployment in selected schools, the Pine Ridge District School Board has involved elementary principals so that they can support the work of these coaches in their schools. This study determined whether there were correlations between principals' knowledge of research-based instructional practices and their understanding of the role of coaches and a transformational leadership style. Findings from the study revealed strong relationships between principals' understanding of instructional practices and the role of literacy coaches and transformational leadership practices or behaviours.M.Ed
