A fundamental feature of eukaryotic cells is their compartmentalization into organelles. This allows for the segregation of biochemical processes, such as protein translation, energy production, macromolecule catabolism, and the transcription of genetic materials. Organelles are delineated by membrane bilayers that are composed of transmembrane and peripheral proteins and lipids.
