Estudio experimental del mezclado en un lecho fluidizado bidimensional

The understanding of the mixing process is of vital importance to accomplish a homogeneous and quality mixing in industrial processes of granular materials. This present work studies mixing process within a pseudo two-dimensional (2D) gas fluidized bed. These systems typically have a transparent wall that enables optical access to the interior of the system. Due to this, the study of two-phase fluidized systems is eased. Furthermore, its thin thickness restrict the domain to two dimensions, making the visualization of the interior representative of the whole domain. A non-intrusive experimental technique has been utilized, the Digital Image Analysis (DIA). Besides, it has been defined a mixing index that allows to characterize the mixing degree and its phases. The influence of fluidization velocity and particle size on mixing process have been studied. Thanks to the experiments performed, it has been identified four phases of the mixing process, and according to them, three mixing times. Therefore, the variation of these times due to particle size and fluidization velocity have been analyzed. The time needed to achieve a complete mixing decreases with increasing fluidization velocities for all particle sizes analyzed. It has been observed that this time decreases slower as the fluidization velocity increases. Thus, the results indicate a possible limit speed from which mixing time does not decrease.El entendimiento del proceso de mezclado es de vital importancia a la hora de poder lograr un mezclado homogéneo y de calidad en los procesos industriales de materiales granulados. El presente trabajo estudia experimentalmente el proceso de mezclado en un lecho fluidizado de pequeño espesor, pseudo bidimensional (2D). Estos sistemas poseen un cristal que permite tener acceso óptico a su interior, de forma que se facilita el estudio de los sistemas de fluidización de dos fases, gas-partícula. Además, como poseen un espesor delgado, el dominio se reduce a dos dimensiones. Se ha empleado una técnica experimental no intrusiva, el Análisis Digital de Imágenes (DIA).Se ha definido un índice de mezclado que permite caracterizar el grado de mezclado y sus diferentes fases. Se ha investigado la influencia de la velocidad de fluidización y del tamaño de la partícula en el proceso de mezclado. Se han identificado cuatro fases en el proceso de mezclado y de acuerdo a ello, tres tiempos de mezclado. De esta forma, se ha analizado la variación de esos tiempos de mezclado según el tamaño de partícula y la velocidad. Para los tres tamaños analizados el tiempo necesario para que se produzca el mezclado completo disminuye con la velocidad. Se ha observado que este tiempo disminuye más lentamente a medida que aumenta la velocidad. Así, parece ser que existe una velocidad límite a partir de la cual el tiempo de mezclado ya no disminuye.Ingeniería Industria
